What is papillomatosis of the larynx and what are its signs?

A special place among benign formationsThe larynx occupies the papillomatosis of the larynx. This is the growth of epithelial tissue, which is caused by the human papilloma virus. There is a risk that this disease may recur after surgery.

Infection with papilloma occurs during childbirth. The tumor is most often found in the male population in adulthood and in children. Papillomatosis of the larynx in children occurs between the ages of one and a half to five years. For children, the disease causes serious danger, because it is characterized by hoarseness of voice, stridor and severe respiratory failure.

As a rule, the papillomatosis of the larynx manifests itself in the form of warts on the legs. Sometimes papillomas resemble externally cauliflower.

Papillomatosis of the larynx can be caused by viralinfectious diseases (acute or chronic), the development of which is accompanied by professional or domestic irritants or infectious diseases (for example, measles, scarlet fever, diphtheria, etc.). Some of the effects on the development of the disease are disorders of the endocrine and nervous systems.

Papillomatosis of the larynx, the symptoms of which we now describe, must be treated after a thorough diagnosis. As a rule, the degree of manifestation of the symptoms of the disease indicates the level of its complexity:

  1. The most important sign of the presence of papillomatosis is a voice disorder, hoarseness, aphonia.
  2. Cough that manifests itself even in the early stages of the disease.
  3. When the papillomas begin to grow, breathing becomes difficult, with a significant spread of papillomas, stenosis may occur.

The most intensive development and relapsePapillomatosis of the larynx has in childhood. As a rule, papillomas in the bulk are located on the vocal folds. Their proliferation occurs on those parts of the respiratory tract that are located above and below the vocal cords.

Diagnosis, which allows you to determine the degreedevelopment of the disease, is to carry out endovideososcopy of the larynx, a study of the histology of distant laryngeal formations. Sometimes studies are prescribed using computed tomography to determine the prevalence of papillomas.

Treatment of papillomatosis of the larynx is complicated by the fact thatthe level of recurrence is high. As a rule, the main method by which laryngeal papillomatosis is eliminated is surgical intervention. When there is a relapse, there is a need for combined treatment. With this treatment, surgical removal of papillomas is performed, after which a long course of immunomodulatory and antiviral therapy is prescribed. However, very often papillomas in the larynx form again, and there is a need for a re-operation.

Many clinics in order to reduce the likelihood ofrelapse and prolong the period of remission of the disease, after removing the papillomas, the mucous membrane of the larynx is smeared with pofillin and some other chemotherapeutic medicines.

Foreign medicine began active useultrasound in the treatment of papillomatosis. With this method of treatment, the external influence of ultrasound on the papilloma or the effect of direct laryngoscopy is carried out. This method is used only with general anesthesia.

Moscow medicine offers a variant of treatment with prospedin phonophoresis, which involves the introduction of ultrasound with a proppedin ointment after removal by papillomas.

If papillomas formed a small amount, this method of treatment helps to completely remove them and significantly reduce the risk of relapse. In many cases, the disease was cured completely.
